The purchasing problem
A quote for the correct chip can still be unsuitable if the packaging does not meet the assembler’s requirement. Small sample quantities and complete manufacturer reels should not be treated as equivalent deliverables.
What changes the requirement
An ordering suffix may identify a manufacturer packing option, but the offered lot still needs verification. Cut tape, partial reels and original sealed reels describe different shipment conditions. Moisture-sensitive handling depends on the exact device and available packaging evidence.
Sourcing risks
A supplier photograph may show a label without proving that all offered pieces share that lot. Resealing or repacking must not be described as original factory sealing. Missing moisture documentation should remain a disclosed limitation.
Before requesting a quotation
- Exact MPN and quoted quantity
- Original sealed reel, partial reel, cut tape or other agreed format
- Label photographs, reel quantity and lot information where available
- Assembler feeder and leader requirements
- Required moisture bag, indicators and handling records for the exact part
A practical procurement approach
Write the acceptable packaging into the enquiry. Ask the supplier to identify the actual offered format before placing the order. If a full reel quantity is required, reconfirm the manufacturer packing reference and the offered reel; do not generalise a packing quantity across a product family.
