The purchasing problem
Sensor teams often move from a small prototype build to repeat production orders. Parts bought for evaluation may have different packaging, handling history or ordering suffixes from the production requirement.
What changes the requirement
Battery life is a system result. Radio duty cycle, firmware, sensor activity, supply design and link conditions all matter. Sleep, receive and transmit current figures cannot be combined into a life estimate without the relevant operating profile.
Sourcing risks
Selecting on a headline current value or assuming all members of a wireless family use the same package can create a procurement mismatch. Loose parts offered for samples should not be described as original sealed reels.
Before requesting a quotation
- Full wireless IC order code and board revision
- Target application, protocol and approved region
- Sample quantity and anticipated pilot quantity
- Acceptable packaging and any moisture-handling documentation
A practical procurement approach
Keep sample evaluation separate from production release. Save the evaluated part identity and approved supplier evidence. Ask for the actual packaging offered for each quantity; do not assume a sample shipment establishes the packaging for a later bulk order.
